Cross-Application (Cross-App)
Workflows that span two or more similar applications. For example, many CAD users have more than one CAD software application for importing and manipulating models. Design firms, prototypers, and machine shops that do work for 3rd parties (as opposed to OEMs), need to support the widest array of applications to service the broader market.
Another example includes CAD/CAM, where users might use a CAD application to import or create a 3D model, then export that file into a CAM application for CNC programming or part analysis. Think SOLIDWORKS to Mastercam or Creo to ANSYS.
Note: The concept called multidisciplinary workflows has been promoted by both Intel and NVIDIA in recent years to describe user workflows leveraging either single applications environments (such as SOLIDWORKS or NX) OR multiple and disperate applications from different vendors – where wholly different tasks are being performed either In-App or Cross-App
